Malvar EnerZone (MEZ), an AboitizPower distribution utility, recently hosted an educational site visit for 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering students from De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) last March 26. The engagement aimed to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical distribution application.

The visit was organized into two sessions to ensure a personalized and safe learning environment for the 50 participating students. As part of their current curriculum—which includes complex subjects such as Power System Analysis, Distribution Systems, and Substation Design—the students were given an exclusive look into the technical heartbeat of a modern distribution company.

The comprehensive program provided the students with insights into five key areas of utility management:

  1. Facility Safety: An orientation on high-voltage safety protocols.

  2. Operations & Maintenance: Insights into the daily technical management of the grid.

  3. Best Practices: A look at the operational standards that define AboitizPower.

  4. Facility Walkthrough: A guided tour of MEZ’s physical infrastructure.

  5. Technical Demo: A live demonstration on how to test Distribution Transformers.

The importance of the visit was highlighted by Engr. Jed Allan M. Cantal, Program Chair of the Electrical Engineering Department at De La Salle Lipa, who shared that exposure to actual industry practices serves as a "valuable complement" to classroom learning.

By observing these concepts applied in real-world settings, the 4th-year students gained a deeper appreciation for the systems they will soon be designing and managing as professionals.

Malvar EnerZone remains committed to supporting educational institutions and fostering the growth of the Philippines' future engineering leaders.
